ATM

At Washington Hospital, a Washington Financial Bank ATM is in the lobby between entrances.


Cafeteria

The cafeteria is located on the second floor.


Washington Hours:

Monday – Friday: 6:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Saturday & Sunday: Closed. Guest trays may be purchased through your dining assistant.


Greene Hours:

Monday – Friday:

Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Lunch: 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Saturday & Sunday: Closed

Cellphones

You may use your cellphone, but it must be in silent mode between 9:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. The hospital reserves the right to restrict cellphone use in certain circumstances and areas of the hospital. For patient and family privacy and safety, photography and videotaping of patients and employees within the hospital is prohibited per WHS policy.


eCards

At WHS, eCards are available on the WHS website. Click on "eCards" to view options. This is a great way for family and friends to send an electronic card to their loved one in the hospital.


Fire and Missing Person Drills

We may conduct a fire or missing person drill during your stay. When a drill is announced, you will hear alarms and the door to your room will be closed. You will be informed when a drill occurs. Please remain in place until the drill is over.


Flowers and Magazines

If you receive flowers or plants, hospital volunteers will deliver them to your room. Center for Mental Health and Wellbeing (3A) patients may receive flowers in plastic containers. All patients are permitted to receive flowers with exception of those in the Critical Care area. Fresh flowers, balloons, magazines and gifts can be purchased in the Washington Hospital gift shop.

Hours at WHS Greene:

Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.


The gift shops are staffed by volunteers. The shops sell a variety of items, including candy, gifts, greeting cards and magazines. Hours may vary.


iPads

iPads are available for communication with family members who are unable to visit in person. Ask staff how to request an iPad.


Lost and Found

You are responsible for your personal belongings during your stay at WHS. Please leave all valuables such as jewelry, large amounts of cash and sentimental items at home.


Any lost items of value found throughout the hospitals will be taken to the WHS Police or WHS Greene Environmental Services, where the items will be held for 60 days. To inquire about a lost item, call WHS Police at 724‐579‐1870 or WHS  Greene at 724‐627‐3101.


Mail

Mail will be distributed Monday through Friday. If you are sending mail, stamps may be purchased at the gift shop. Outgoing mail may be put in the mailbox in the main lobby or given to one of our staff members to mail. Your loved ones should address mail to you in the following manner:

Medicines

If you bring medicines to the hospital, please show them to your nurse. After the nurse has recorded them, a loved one should take the medicines home for you. Your doctor will prescribe your medicines during your stay.


If you do not have a family member or friend to bring home your medicines, they will be securely stored at the hospital during your stay and given back to you upon discharge. On rare occasions, we may ask for permission to use your home medicines.


Nurse Call System

The nurse call system is located on the handheld controller. If you need help, press the appropriate selection button (pain, water, toilet or general call), and staff will respond to your needs. If you have difficulty using the call button, we have special assistive devices that can be used. There also is a call bell in the bathroom. Please pull the cord or press the switch if you need help.


Nutritional Services

Our dining assistant will visit daily to get your meal selections in accordance with your prescribed diet. Dietitians are available if you have questions about your diet. Ask your nurse to make arrangements.



Meal service begins at the times listed below. Meal delivery depends on the unit.


Breakfast: 7:30 a.m.

Lunch: 11:30 a.m.

Dinner: 4:30 p.m.


If you know a friend or family member will be visiting you at mealtime, you may order a guest tray for a fee. At Washington Hospital, call ext. 3078 or 724-223-3078. At WHS Greene, call ext. 2471 or 724-627-2471.


Parking

Visitors at Washington Hospital should park on the top two levels of the parking garage. When entering the lots, push the button and take a ticket to open the gate (keep this ticket—you will need it to exit). Parking rates are:

 

  • free for the first 70 minutes
  • $1.00 for each additional hour
  • up to $4.00 per day
  • $4.00 overnight fee per day

 

When leaving, take the ticket to one of the three pay stations (Main Lobby, Emergency Department or UPMC Cancer Treatment Center), which accept cash or credit card. You can also pay at the exit gate with credit card only.


On-street metered parking is available. If you are visiting between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., please park in the Emergency Department parking lot (parking rates still apply). Use WayStride Hospital Navigation App to remember your parking spot.


Visitors to WHS Greene should park in the free parking lot in front of the building.


Patient Education

The patient education channel at Washington Hospital is free and can be viewed on Channel 44 for all inpatients. The patient education channel for the CARE Center for Family Birth and Women’s Health is Channel 45 (English) and Channel 46 (Spanish). These videos can also be viewed on your own devices by following the directions on your Patient Channel Guide, included in your admission folder. Patient Portal

myWHS Patient Portal Washington Health System offers patients access to their information online. For information, please visit whs.org/patient-guests/mywhs.


Public Telephones and Restrooms

There is one payphone located at Washington Hospital near the E elevators near the main lobby. Restrooms are located on every floor, as well as in the main lobby and in the Emergency Department.


Safety & Security

In order to maintain a safe, secure and healing environment, no weapons are allowed in the hospital or on WHS property, except those carried by authorized WHS police officers and local, state and federal law enforcement agents. Acting in a threatening or aggressive way may result in removal from the premises, termination of services or WHS Police involvement. In Pennsylvania, it is a felony to assault a health care worker.


Smoking

WHS is a tobacco-free environment. Employees, patients and visitors are not permitted to use tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, on any hospital property, including parking garages, parking lots and sidewalks.


Swing Beds

WHS Greene offers swing beds. These are private rooms where patients can receive short-term skilled nursing care, physical, speech, and occupational therapy, wound care or IV antibiotics. The stay on the Swing Unit is covered by the patient’s skilled nursing facility benefits. Any deductibles or coinsurance would apply.


Telephones

All patients can receive incoming calls from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The operator has devices available for hearing-impaired patients. Contact your nurse if you need this equipment.


For a list of phone numbers and instructions on how to make in-hospital calls, see the Phone Directory. To make a local call, dial 9 + area code + seven-digit number. To reach an 800 number, dial 9 + 800 + seven-digit number. (If it does not work, try 91, then 800.)


Television, Radios and Appliances

A television is in every patient room. Battery-powered devices, such as radios, laptop computers and CD players, may be used at the discretion of the nurse in charge. Patient-furnished extension cords, electric heating pads and blankets, space heaters, curling irons, hairdryers, electric razors and electric fans are prohibited.


Valuables and Personal Items

If you wear contact lenses, eyeglasses, dentures or hearing aids, they should be placed in protective containers on the over-the-bed table. If you do no have a container for these items, we will provide a container for you. We encourage you not to place personal items on your bed, windowsills or your food tray.


WHS assumes no responsibility for loss of or damage to items or cash left in your room. Do not bring valuables such as jewelry, cash or credit cards to the hospital. If you have valuables with you, we encourage you to send them home with a relative or friend. If this is not possible, the hospital safe may be used to store your valuables.

Wi-Fi

WHS provides free Wi-Fi for our patients and families, which can be accessed by selecting “whsguest” at Washington Hospital and “GuestWireless” at WHSG on your personal device and following the directions.
